On Wednesday 5 April, a Christian was attacked with a sword and left for dead by Hindu extremists.
Pastor Sikandar Kumar, a staff member of India Mission (an evangelistic organisation) was attacked by Hindu extremists in his home in Hazipur, Patna, Bihar. An Open Doors partner reported, “They barged into his house and attacked him brutally, beat him all over with an iron rod and then attacked him on his head with a sword. They left when they thought he was dead.”
This isn’t the first time Pastor Sikandar Kumar has been attacked this year; he was also beaten by extremists on 10 February 2017.
This is just the latest of hundreds of attacks against Christian in India this year. Open Doors partners have recorded 252 attacks on Christians in India so far in 2017, with 80 taking place in March alone.
After BJP’s victory in state elections, Hindu extremists are attacking Christians and other minorities with impunity. In one case in Agra, Uttar Pradesh, six Christians working for India Mission were brutally attacked and beaten with thick sticks; all of them were badly injured, and one of them was critically hurt.
We support people who are beaten, tortured,
imprisoned, falsely accused, and hated simply for following Jesus.
