Pastor Edward is a Syrian Pastor. He’s runs a large church in Damascus, and has done so for the last 12 years, staying through instability, war and terror. He’s a long term friend of Open Doors and has recently been in the UK – he was even on Songs of Praise last Sunday!
Have a watch at this 5 minute clip of Pastor Edward speaking about his church, the need in Syria and why they, and many other Christians have chosen to stay, despite the cost.
War has been tearing Syria apart for five years. Many Christians have fled but those who have chosen to stay are working tirelessly to ensure that when the conflict is over they can rebuild their society and lead by example to create a stable nation where different religions can live side by side in mutual support and harmony.
Pastor Edward says: “People are looking for hope and peace, there’s no other source of real hope and real peace other than Christ and the only people who can carry this burden and who have this privilege are the people of God, the church of the living God. So we are staying there as ambassadors and we are so privileged to be there for this reason.”
