Get sponsored to go screen free for up to 48 hours...

How Blackout works…

1.Sign up…

Join the Blackout by signing up and we’ll send you a free Blackout pack in the post and give you access to a bunch of downloads to help you go screen free.

2.Raise money, prayer and awareness…

Set up a JustGiving page or use the sponsor form we send you to raise money to support projects restoring hope, dignity and value to persecuted Christian women and girls. Use our resources to reflect, pray and tell others what you are doing and why!

3.Shut down your screens…

Stash away the smart phone, lock up the Xbox, turn off the TV! Shut down anything with a screen for up to 48 hours to stand with silenced and unseen persecuted Christians.

What your money could achieve…

  • Raising £34 could provide training for a woman from a Muslim background to share the gospel with others
  • Raising £90 could feed 10 widows in Nigeria each month who have been impacted by persecution
  • Raising £255 could provide persecution survival training for ten women, so they know their legal rights and what the Bible says about persecution
  • Raising £488 could provide trauma counselling and vital monthly aid for eight women refugees who have fled homes because of persecution

Set a target and see what your money could achieve…

Take part…

On your own…

Spend up to 48 hours going screen free! Sign up now, kick-start your fundraising by setting up a Justgiving page and share it with your friends and family. Wait until your Blackout pack arrives and then post a photo of you and your pack on your Instagram profile telling the world that you’re joining the Blackout. We reckon your friends and family will be rallying around to support you – and they might even join the challenge too!

As a group…

Going screen free could be a bit lonely on your own so encourage your youth group, CU, small group or even church to Blackout with you! We’ve produced some special leader downloads to help you scale up Blackout. Set up a prayer room, run a prayer event and spend time together doing some real life social networking. And of course, you can still get sponsored – set up a group Justgiving page and ask your friends, family and church to support you!

Why Blackout? Semira’s story…

Semira and her mum live in Eritrea. Recently, Semira’s dad was arrested for attending an illegal prayer meeting. He’s been imprisoned and has been given no release date. But despite threats and intimidation, Semira hasn’t given up on Jesus. Her mum explains.

“She was given three warnings from the school for sharing her faith and she was told not to talk to any children even during school breaks.

“One day some of her fellow students threw rocks at her and she got hit in the stomach. They regularly tell her that she doesn’t deserve to be their friend. Sometimes they also throw rocks at the house.”

“My daughter is never scared of the persecution anymore Even if they keep hurting her physically, she doesn’t care. She always says, ‘God won’t let me down. I am ready until death to follow Him.’”

Open Doors is helping to provide practical help to Christians across the region where Semira and her mum live.

Join the Blackout to help others like Semira and her mum who are bravely living out their love of Jesus despite threats, violence and trauma.
