Your gift from your Secret Santa…
OK, so your Secret Santa didn’t buy you a naff pressie this year! Lucky you. No more wearing dodgy Christmas themed socks or putting up with annoying, singing cuddly toys.
Instead your Secret Santa made a donation towards the work Open Doors is doing inside Syria. At present we’re supplying essential food and relief packs to thousands of families a month. And it’s these packs that the gift given on your behalf is helping to provide.
These families have fled homes because of war, terror and instability. Since 2011 Syria has been in the midst of a brutal civil war. The rise of extremist groups, like the so-called Islamic State, mean Christians and other minority groups have been targeted – simply because of their beliefs.
As you would have seen on the news, millions are leaving the region, but millions more have no option but to stay. They are stuck, unable to go home, unable to move on. And in this time of need Open Doors is helping local churches to provide care, supplies and help. In the midst of the devastation we’re working alongside local partners to help people rebuild their lives.
Through our partners we’re providing:
- Regular food and relief packs for tens of thousands of people across the region
- Trauma counselling training so those experiencing terror can try to deal with what has happened to them
- Pastoral care for local church leaders trying to cope with an influx of people needing help
- Supporting medical clinics by providing much needed supplies and resources
We hope you like the present your Secret Santa got you – it’s definitely more meaningful than the usual Secret Santa tat that gets thrown out pretty quickly!

About Open Doors
Open Doors is a Christian charity that works in over 60 countries around the world. We exist to serve people who are persecuted for their faith in Jesus, which equates to around 100 million people today. Depending on the region Christians face all kinds of pressures, from denial of basic rights, to arrest, torture and extreme violence. In these contexts, Open Doors, through networks of local partners supply Bibles, leadership training, literacy programmes, livelihood support and advocacy services. We also seek to mobilise the church in the UK & Ireland to serve Christians living under religious persecution.
