Write to: Sharifa

On the afternoon of 24 July, suspected Boko Haram militants arrived at the village of Balgaram in the extreme north of Cameroon, where Pastor Jean Marcel Kesvere was living with his wife, Sharifa*, and their eight children.

The militants caught the Kesvere family at home. Some of the older children ran off, but Sharifa couldn’t – she had the younger children with her. They watched helplessly as the attackers asked Jean Marcel what he did for a living. When they heard that he was a pastor, they bundled him into a car and left. He was killed the next day.

Sharifa and her children left with other villagers. There was no time to gather any of their belongings – they left with only the clothes on their backs.

Jean Marcel was well known to Open Doors; he attended several of the training events we ran in that part of Cameroon. Please pray for comfort for Sharifa and her children, and for wisdom as Open Doors looks at how to support them long term in partnership with the local church.
