“I will forever remember 30 June as the day I lost my best friend,” widow Martina Kura shares.

On 30 June 2016, father-of-seven Reverend Joseph Kura was brutally murdered by suspected Islamic Fulani youth as he worked on his farm. His wife, Martina, learned from witnesses that Joseph had faced his attackers before being killed.

“I cried until I had no more tears left,” says Martina. “But eventually I realised that crying will never bring Joseph back. The Lord also reminded me of the words of Psalm 139:16, ‘Your eyes saw my unformed body; all the days ordained for me were written in your book before one of them came to be’ – and I was comforted.”

With the loss of the family’s income, Martina has worried about how she’ll be able to support her children. Also, her eldest son Ebenezer has been tempted to take revenge on those who killed his father. Thankfully, he told us, “After many words of encouragement from different people, I realised that two wrongs can never make a right.”
