Send Hope

Write to: Toby

Toby (15) is from the North Kivu province in the Democratic Republic of Congo and only recently escaped from Islamic radical Allied Defence Forces (ADF). He is very much in need of your letters of encouragement and support after the trauma he has suffered.

Toby and his family were captured by ADF rebels and held hostage in a nearby forest. He witnessed many traumatic events, including, tragically, the murder of his mother. He still suffers from nightmares. One day, Toby discovered his father was missing from the group, and initially thought he had been killed, but in actual fact he had escaped. Soon after, he was able to escape too, and made it to a nearby town where he was taken in and looked after. He was reunited with his father, but it very quickly became apparent that his father was too traumatised to look after him.

Toby was taken in and is now being looked after by a local pastor, Joseph. He has given his life to Christ and worships at Pastor Joseph’s church. He has also gone back to school. But he still struggles with the memories of his time as a hostage, and with feelings of hatred towards his captors.

Could you send Toby a message of hope and encouragement as he readjusts?
