Arrested with hymn books

May 23, 2016

Please pray for two Open Doors field partners, from Laos, who were arrested by Vietnamese authorities on Saturday, 14 May.

Hian* and Phung* were caught during a trip to transport tribal hymnals to believers in Vietnam.

Their motorbike, which was provided by Open Doors, has been confiscated by the police, and they have now been sent to a district jail in southern Laos for detention.

An Open Doors worker in the region said, “We are waiting with our local partners for our next steps. Please pray that our brothers, Hian and Phung, will be freed.”

The need for Bibles in Vietnam

In Vietnam, the publication and distribution of Christian materials is difficult and highly restricted – even materials officially approved by the government can be confiscated. But with the growth of the church in the region, there has been an increasing demand for Bibles and Christian literature, particularly for children and tribal believers.

Open Doors is working with local partners in South East Asia to help distribute Bibles and Christian literature.

Pray now…

  • That our brothers, Hian and Phung, will be freed soon – that God would protect them and they will know His comfort
  • That believers in Vietnam, particularly those in the Central Highlands, will be able to access Bibles and Christian literature in their own language
  • For the Lord to protect the work of Open Doors and local partners in South East Asia.

We support people who are beaten, tortured,
imprisoned, falsely accused, and hated simply for following Jesus.
