Christmas in Iraq

January 6, 2015

Thousands of Iraqi refugees were celebrating Christmas far from home at the end of last year. Having fled their towns due to threats from IS fighters many families spent the festive period in make-shift refugee camps.

Despite this, the camp leaders made the season special for the children putting on craft sessions, events and songs. Father Daniel, who has been looking after the children in a refugee camp in Erbil, says: “I hope that these kids are going to have a new life without any wars, to live in peace, to be educated.” Watch our latest Iraq vlog and meet them for yourself.

Please pray…

  • That despite being far from home, refugees in Iraq will truly know Emmanuel, God with them, as they enter the new year
  • Ask God to use the trauma counselling and micro-loans that Open Doors is providing to help refugees begin to recover from their horrific experiences and rebuild their lives
  • For strength for Father Daniel and others who are working to care for refugees in Iraq.
