“It is amazing to realise how a small card like this can bring such hope and encouragement to me from so far away,” shares Alfia Kashkumbayev. Alfia and her family live in in Astana, Kazakhstan. Many of you wrote to her when her husband, Pastor Bakhytzhan, was arrested in 2013 on the false charges of poisoning a church member with communion wine.
She says: “When I realized that Bakhytzhan was arrested not for a short period, but for an indefinite amount of time, I began to cry – I was crying for an hour! Even though questions such as ‘why?’ were in my head, deep inside my heart I knew that God allows trials to happen in our lives so our faith in Christ will become even stronger.
“Day by day, not knowing what to expect in the future, I prayed to God. I asked Him for my husband’s release. And one day it happened!”
After 9 months in jail, Pastor Bakhytzhan was allowed to return home. He is serving four years under house arrest, and will then have a three year probationary period.
“I will be eternally grateful to everyone who prayed for us!” Alfia shared with a big smile on her face, holding one of the cards.
