Philippines: Tragedy blamed on being a Christian

February 1, 2016

Hannah, a Sama Muslim-background believer from the Philippines, lost her son due to complications in his lungs three weeks ago. Tragically, when her Muslim family put the blame on her Christian faith, this led to the death of her second child one week later.

Hannah was forced to leave her home in Cagayan de Tawi-Tawi and move to Palawan because of the pressure put on her following her son’s death. Three days after arriving, her 13-year-old daughter was hit by a speeding van. The driver, who is also a Christian, surrendered to the local police.

Other Sama Muslim-background believers in Palawan are now ministering to Hannah. They reported that she is suffering from nervous breakdowns. Hannah’s younger daughter, who was present at her sister’s death, is also traumatised.

Pray now

  • That God’s comfort and peace will be with Hannah and her daughter as they grieve the loss of the two children
  • That Hannah will not experience further pressure from her family because of her Christian faith
  • For support for Muslim-background believers in the region who cannot receive trauma care or counselling because of poverty or discrimination.

We support people who are beaten, tortured,
imprisoned, falsely accused, and hated simply for following Jesus.
