Pray: Kenyan churches at risk

May 5, 2015

Police in Kenya have issued a warning that Nairobi’s churches and university are at risk of a new attack by al-Shabaab.

The warning, circulated via the president’s office on last week, states that al-Shabaab has dispatched spies to launch ‘high scale attacks’ on ‘unspecified dates’.

The letter states that major targets include Nairobi Pentecostal Church, Holy Family Basilica and St Andrews Presbyterian Church of East Africa as well as the university and parliament. A parliament employee linked to a mosque named in the letter has already been detained.

The named targets will have ‘enhanced security’ but, the letter advises, there is a need for extra vigilance. The warning follows the 2 April attack by al-Shabaab on a university in Garissa where Christian students were singled out. That attack left 149 dead.

Please pray…

  • For protection for these churches and for the university and parliament in Nairobi
  • For wisdom for the leaders of Kenya as they combat terrorism
  • For God to change the hearts of members of al-Shabaab and turn them to him.

We support people who are beaten, tortured,
imprisoned, falsely accused, and hated simply for following Jesus.
