Three quick prayers for Somalia

February 6, 2017

Somalia is now at No.2 on the Open Doors 2017 World Watch List. That means Christians in the country are facing severe persecution for their choice to follow Jesus. At least 12 Christians were killed last year when their faith was discovered. The militant Islamist group al-Shabaab has stated publicly that it ‘wants Somalia free of all Christians’, and they are able to persecute Christians with impunity, as Somalia is largely lawless.

Here’s three quick prayers you can pray for your church family in Somalia…

1. Build your kingdom…

Father, build your kingdom in Somalia. Open the eyes of those who are seeking truth. I ask that radio programmes that share the love of Jesus would help people hear your truth and hope. Holy Spirit, draw people to you. Amen.

2. Protect what remains…

Father God, I pray for grace and protection for the few hundred Christians in Somalia. Give them strength and hope. Help them find ways to meet secretly together, to share times of prayer, thanksgiving and encouragement. Help them grow in faith, despite the risks. Amen.

3. Prepare the future…

Father, I pray for the country of Somalia. I ask people there would know peace and stability. Bring radicalism and tribalism to an end. I ask that members of the terrorist group al-Shabaab would repent and come to know your love and truth. I ask that the leaders of the country would help unite people and bring in policies that protect human rights and equality of all people. Protect this week’s elections from violence and help the candidates value and stand up for the interests of all Somalians.

More on Somalia…

We support people who are beaten, tortured,
imprisoned, falsely accused, and hated simply for following Jesus.
