A few months ago, on 27 February, Michael (27), a Christian evangelist from Uganda, was ambushed by a group of Muslims as he left a church meeting in eastern Uganda. He was on his way to what he thought was a business meeting at the local shopping centre.
Bystanders heard his cries for help and rushed over, and the mob, who had been beating and kicking Michael, ran away. Michael was taken unconscious to a nearby dispensary with deep lacerations to his head and hand.
Open Doors co-workers visited Michael’s wife and two children shortly after the attack and found that Michael had been heavily sedated because of swelling to his brain. Michael’s pastor told us, “Michael has been very effective in evangelism and this greatly angered the locals and the families of converts.” Michael had been involved in cross-cultural ministry too.
For Michael’s swift and complete healing
For courage for believers in this region to continue to reach out with the good news of the gospel
For protection for Christians in this region, particularly for believers from Muslim backgrounds.
We support people who are beaten, tortured,
imprisoned, falsely accused, and hated simply for following Jesus.
