World Watch List 2020

Every year, Open Doors launches the World Watch List – a ranking of countries where Christians face the most pressure, violence and intimidation because of their faith in Jesus. The 2020 World Watch List was released last week and it shows that the persecution of Christians is getting more severe than ever and more and more believers around the world are being affected.

Quick facts…

• A massive 260 million Christians in the top 50 countries on the World Watch List face high or extreme levels of persecution for their faith.
• That’s 15 million more people than the previous year.
• Open Doors estimates that there are another 50 million Christians facing high levels of persecution in a further 23 countries outside the top 50.
• North Korea remains the most dangerous place in the world to be a Christian, having been at number one since 2002.

Spend a few minutes praying through these words.

Father God. Thank You for faithful, courageous and brave Christians all across the world who are choosing to follow You despite the cost. Give them strength and grace to keep following You no matter what they face. Whether it’s prison, exclusion by family and friends, violence, intimidation, threats, anger, hatred, losing home, living through war, being left out, picked on or ignored, let them know they are not forgotten and that they are part of a global family. Give them what they need, be their provider. Heal those who have experienced trauma, loss and attacks. Bless them. Lord, have mercy. I pray for those who persecute your church. Help them see your light and truth and change their ways. Use the example of brave and courageous Christians to bring many to come to know you, and help me follow their example and live out my faith bravely too. Amen.
